Victory Points — The Cure for Fantasy Football Bad Luck

It’s Tuesday morning and you’re having a case of the Mondays.

“What’s wrong?” a co-worker asks.

“I scored the second most points in my fantasy football league last week.” Seeing his perplexed look brings you no choice but to continue. “…and I still lost.”

“Ouch.”

Yeah, ouch. All those yards and TDs piled up and what do you have left to show for them? A big fat “L” in the league standings.

Victory Point Scoring – a mixture of Head-to-Head and Total Points

Created by ANTSports.com, the Head-to-Head Victory Point Scoring System rewards both points scored and wins in a week.

Here’s how it works:

  • If you win your weekly matchup, you receive 2 points
  • If your point total is in the top third of the league, you get another 2 points
  • If your point total is in the middle third of the league, you get one point
  • If you tie with your opponent, you get one point
  • No win and bottom third in points gets you zero (there are no negative Victory Points)

10 TEAM LEAGUE

+ 2 points = Win
+ 2 points = 1st, 2nd, 3rd in total points scored for the week+ 1 point = 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th in total points scored for the week
zero points = Loss
zero points = 8th, 9th, 10th in total points scored

12 TEAM LEAGUE

+ 2 points = Win
+ 2 points = 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in total points scored for the week
+ 1 point = 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th in total points scored for the week
zero points = Loss
zero points = 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th in total points scored

14 TEAM LEAGUE

+ 2 points = Win
+ 2 points = 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in total points scored for the week
+ 1 point = 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th in total points scored for the week
zero points = Loss
zero points = 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th in total points scored

So four points is the max number of points you can get in a week (Win + top 4 in points scored).

Important: Victory Points are only used in the regular season of your fantasy football league. Regular Head-to-Head is used once playoffs start.

Use Victory Points in Your League

Want to incorporate Victory Points in your league? Both MyFantasyLeague.com and RTSports.com have the option to use Victory Points.

Even if you use a free league service, it’s still easy to keep track of Victory Points mandatory and adjust the playoffs accordingly.

Victory Point Rankings. If you still prefer to live and die by the W’s and L’s, that’s perfectly fine. Still, consider keeping track of Victory Points and having an official Victory Points Rankings, where you rank all the teams based on their points.
