Brandon Belt- Have yourself a day, why don’t you Brandon? Belt went 4/5 with a homer and a crazy 4 runs scored.
Seth Smith- The A’s stack against the overmatched Josh Lindblom of the Rangers was a pretty easy call and it was Seth Smith who ended up having the biggest day, getting on base 4 times, homering and scoring 2 runs.
Andre Ethier- This Dodgers team cannot hit even a little bit, but their outfield is still incredibly talented and in the right matchup Kemp and Ethier are still solid plays. Ethier went 2/4 with a triple, a home run, and 2 RBI.
Yu Darvish- One of the nicest things about taking Darvish is that he is going to go deep in games, no matter what. Up 6 runs last time out, Ron Washington has Darvish throw over 130 pitches. The Oakland offense is more productive than it has been in years past, but none of their hitters scare me at home. The A’s strike out over 20% of the time and Darvish is the owner of a 12.96 K/9 rate. Start Yu with confidence.
Tyler Cloyd: The median statline for starting pitchers against the Marlins? 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K. That is why I will basically take anyone pitching against them on any given night, for any price. The Marlins simply cannot hit the baseball. Cloyd had a sub 3 ERA in his most recent AAA stint and because the Marlins are a triple AAA team, Cloyd won’t have a hard time.
Prince Fielder- This one should really go without saying. Corey Kluber is a mediocre right handed pitcher and Prince Fielder is an elite left handed hitter. The Detroit offense is firing on all cylinders right now and Fielder is going to lead the way. Both Miggy and Fielder are top plays tonight.
Joe Mauer- This might be a newsflash, but Joe Mauer is a really good hitter. He is hitting .328 versus righthanders and has a .414 OBP as well. Whatever made Tim Hudson special at one point is no longer with him and Mauer is a solid catcher option tonight.
Dustin Pedroria- It’s reasonable to want to take Robinson Cano against Miguel Gonzalez, but Lazer Show is cheaper and gets a similarly juicy matchup against Jose Quintana. Quinatana allows right handed batters a .405 SLG and a .305 wOBA. Pedroria’s splits are even more tantalizing as he is hitting an insane .400 versus left handed pitchers with 2 homers and 17 walks.
Evan Longoria- I’m just not buying this from Ramon Ortiz. He is 40 years old and a complete retread. Longoria is the best hitter on the Rays squad and while the splits aren’t great, he is still hitting .316 versus righties. I expect lots of men to be on base tonight and for the Rays to get into the Jays pen early.
Josh Hamilton- Aaron Harang is one of the worst pitchers in the entire majors, with a 7 plus ERA. Hamilton is super cheap on a majority of sites, and you can’t just ignore this matchup. Any left handed Angels that end up starting tonight are worthy of being in your lineup.
